Heartbreaker vs Cary Christian

Hi Girls,

We almost had maybe the greatest comeback ever in JV Girls Basketball. We fell just short on a lucky shot(throw) by Cary with about 1 second to play or so 32 to 30. It hurts but there are so many lessons we can take from it.

Number one, always remember, we win as a team and we lose as a team, no one play ever costs us a game by itself unless you played a perfect game the rest of the time. Every mistake in the game if we had not made it could have been the one that allowed us to win the game instead of losing the game. Those at the beginning of the game cost us just as much as those at the end.

We did not have to fall 16 points down (24 to 8) before we played the way we ended up playing down the stretch which was basically all world good. We just let Cary get too far ahead, even though we made a miraculous comeback to take the lead on some great team offensive play and defensive play. We basically outscored Cary 22 to 8 in the last 10 minutes of the game. We just need to take care of business each game and look at each possession as an opportunity to put ourselves in the position to not let a missed rebound and a lucky shot beat us.

Bottom line when we play with great intensity when we think we have to absolutely play our best like we did the last 9 or 10 minutes of the this game we play our best. We relax and become more focused and more energized. We did the same thing in the comeback vs. Village Christian that fell just short. We just need to take the lessons this game taught us to heart and learn from them.

Final Thoughts: We are still a great team. Only a great team could have pulled itself off the mat and made the kind of push it took to give us a chance to win. I thought Lindy had a very good performance and showed a lot of heart down the stretch. I thought Lindsey had maybe her best game at running the team and defensively. We got a nice lift today from our bench, I was proud of what they gave to the team.

Our Ace calling card is still our pressure defense. When we play it good and tight good things happen. We had 23 steals and 17 blocked shots. That is great Defense. Remember Defense is mostly determination and hustle and everyone playing it hard at the same time.

I love our style of play. We we execute it right we are amazing. It is beautiful basketball. I thought we did the best we have done with the Viking Passing Game Offense. Be proud of yourselves, your coach is and your many admirers are.

Get some rest, get plenty of fluids and get some proteins(Meats, eggs, seafood etc.) in your body 24 hours in advance of the games. . Also try to get plenty of Carbs (noodles, French Fries, bread, beans, pizza) Sunday night before the game. We have a tough two game stretch and we need to play our very best both days! Try to not run any this weekend so we will have our legs fresh for Monday and Tuesday.

Grades: Play Hard A+, Play Smart B+, Play Together A. (BTW, Play Smart not only means play smart but it also mean executing both on offense, defense and Inbounds plays.)
